i am 46 years young and i am just on my beginning. started painting half a year ago (aug. 2013) and growed to like it. currently i practice acrylics but in future i wanna try oil technique. i almost do it myself with little help watching some video-shows on youtube. i am sooo glad not to have to "study painting" and have to do what someone else want me to. i just do what i want at that time i wonna do it and as long as i am interested in it. this is the most luxury i can ever imagine!

i hope to make progress maybe one day to be able to paint surrealism like my most adorable artist - salvador dali. maybe this will never happen but one can always try ;)

That's how I learned as well and I didn't start until after I retired in my late fifties. You keep doing what you're doing because it's definitely working! Don't be frightened about trying oils - I started with oils, then moved to acrylics and then back to oils. For me oils are much more relaxing because they don't dry so quickly and I can blend colours on the canvas. Good luck!

so the conclusion is that one can be never too old to start panting/arting - thats the most amazing thing about art anyway, there are no restrictions :D
unfortunately i am no longer unemployed so the time for painting is strikingly decreased Waaaah!
...and the intuition is gone for a long time - waiting for better times to come, though Meow :3
thank you for stopping by :blowkiss:

i was amazed when read this entry, cause I also started painted (drawing) very recently and learn it all just from videos/forums, and have the very same filling about this happy possibility just to draw, thinking of nothing, but the process... Dali has always been my inspiration from 16 y/o, when I first saw his paintings, but now I'm getting more interested in realism and dream of mixing real & surreal...
sorry, too much words about myself.. just wanted to say how much I share your feelings about art, and wish your life give you all the possibilities to devote yourself to nothing but painting. :)

thank you soooo much for telling your story - i very much appreciate!!! and as i took a quick look in your gallery and your da-entry i must admit there are some similarities between us and your art is really amazing!!! i also quit my job years ago but not really because of wanting to paint. after a long time of 'getting free in mind' my way leads me to the art i now become addicted to ;)

not yet, somehow i prefer to have sth 'real' in my hands Deviation love  after finishing...
i know, it's a little stupid thought cus of course you can print out a digital work but if it is a large size i wouldnt know how and where Shrug but on the other hand, you dont lose quality while posting and it is surely lower in costs... maybe one day i go further and try it, but now i dont have the equipment (programm and whatever else...) and not the knowledge, and not the imagination how to start  Tantrum
and finally, i am just still a little bit 'old school'... Lonely

Yes, there`s a lot pro and cons. That`s why many digital painters stick to traditional as well. Old school is nice, love that paint savour and real brush strokes:)
